Question:  Can you think of any Old Testament Themes I have overlooked?
If so....Please let me know!

Eventually, I hope to take each theme, explain and expound on it, and demonstrate (through Scripture) how each theme was indeed brought into fulfillment within the first century.  Stay tuned.....thanks!

Old Testament Prophetic Themes
(...and their New Testament Fulfillment)

I have been asked a number of times exactly how I came to be a full preterist.  There’s many different answers I can give.  The truth is, there wasn’t “one thing”.  Rather it was an arduous journey of collecting the biblical evidence and piecing together a cumulative case.  But I specifically recall how impactful it was for me when I realized the New Testament Apostles were essentially reiterating what ALL the Old Testament Prophets had been pointing toward and explaining that it had arrived in their generation!

It became crystal clear the “culmination of the ages” (1 Cor. 10:11, Heb. 9:26) had arrived in the first century.  This further shed light on understanding the often neglected interpretive principle of audience relevance, as I could now clearly understand exactly what Peter was telling his audience when he wrote, “Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you”.

Rod MacArthur has made the point a number of times (in his podcasts, lectures, etc.) that ALL the prophets shared a common teaching source…..Deuteronomy (especially Ch. 28-32).  In other words, as Rod puts it, take away Deuteronomy 28-32 and you rob ALL the prophets of their sermon material.  This is eye-opening for those of us wanting to make sense of the prophets.

Knowing this, I was able to view Peter and Paul’s statements with fresh eyes:

“And all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and those who came after him, also proclaimed these days”. (Peter…Acts 3:24).

“So, having obtained help from God, I stand to this day testifying both to small and great, stating nothing but what the Prophets and Moses said was going to take place; that the Christ was to suffer, and that by reason of His resurrection from the dead He would be the first to proclaim light both to the Jewish people and to the Gentiles”. (Paul…Acts 26:22-23)

“And I confess this to thee, that, according to the way that they call a sect, so serve I the God of the fathers, believing all things that in the law and the prophets have been written, having hope toward God, which they themselves also wait for, that there is about to be a rising again of the dead, both of righteous and unrighteous (Paul…Acts 24:14-15)

With this in mind, this page is dedicated to the prophetic THEMES woven throughout the Old Testament Scriptures, from beginning to end.  I am convinced that once one becomes acquainted with these themes, and how the Apostles interpreted these themes as coming to their fulfillment in their day (through direct citation), the evidence is simply too overwhelming to reach any other conclusion.

Below is a list of Old Testament prophetic themes with corresponding Old Testament verses…then followed with their New Testament “counterparts”:
